FODIAC: Food for Diabetes and Cognition
WHAT IS FODIAC?
The purpose of FODIAC is the development of an integrative dietary solution to tackle type 2 diabetes and mitigate the cognitive dysfunction among the elderly population by developing a functional food. FODIAC further aims to enhance the quality of Research & Innovation in Europe, promoting international, intersectoral cooperation among all stakeholders along the Food Value Chain (network of stakeholders involved in growing, processing, and selling the food that consumers eat).
This is achieved through an advanced international and intersectoral cooperation between 7 academic and 8 non-academic partners. For this purpose, FODIAC assembles a European multi/interdisciplinary consortium, composed of partners in 5 countries that provide expertise in:
Extraction and purification of bioactive molecules
Nanotechnology
Nano/micro-encapsulation
Toxicology
Nutrition
Biomarkers
Clinical trial management
We are involve in research to improve people’s life
WHO WE ARE?
FODIAC assembles a European multi/interdisciplinary consortium, composed of partners in 5 countries that provide expertise in: extraction and purification of bioactive molecules, nanotechnology, nano/micro-encapsulation, toxicology, nutrition, biomarkers and clinical trial management.
The overall R&I objective of FODIAC is to develop an integrative dietary solution to tackle diabetes and the associated impairment of the cognitive function among the elderly by the development of bioactive ingredients, and functional foods and diets.
This is achieved through an advanced international, intersectoral, cooperation between 7 academic and 8 non-academic partners.
FODIAC builds on BiValBi FP7-IRSES results, a successful project where the team was already responsible for gaining knowledge in the recovery of bioactive compounds from food wastes, and the encapsulation of those compounds for food applications. FODIAC will go further, by focusing on understand how dietary intervention strategies using an appropriate combination of foods containing functional ingredients (polyphenols) with proven bioactivity can be used to reduce Type 2 diabetes (T2D) and mitigate the decay of cognitive function among the elderly.
The actions of individual partners, academic and industrial across the whole food value chain, using Exchange of Staff as a tool to capitalize on complementary competences.
We are an advanced international and intersectoral consortium composed by individual partners, academic and industrial (7 academic and 8 non-academic partner) focused on understand how dietary intervention strategies using an appropriate combination of foods containing functional ingredients (polyphenols) with proven bioactivity can be used to reduce Type 2 diabetes (T2D) and mitigate the decay of cognitive function among the elderly.
