The 7th Brazilian Biotech Congress and 2nd Biotech Ibero-American Congress took place from November 18th to 21st in Brasilia, Brazil. The four-day conference has been an excellent opportunity to gather experts, exchange information and strengthen the collaboration among Researchers, Professionals and Scholars from both academia and industry.
Participants took part to plenary sessions, keynote speeches, poster and oral presentations focused on recent advances and new strategies in Plant, Industrial, Environmental, Animal and Human Biotechnology, offering a great overview of the current biotechnological initiatives and networks in Latin America, Spain and Portugal.
Among these initiatives, FODIAC, a project led by the INL – International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory together with other 14 partners, was introduced to the audience as an outstanding example of research in the field of nanotechnology and biotechnology. Lorenzo Pastrana explained the overall objective of the project of exploring techniques to extract bioactive molecules from food waste to be applied to develop an integrative dietary solution to tackle diabetes and the associated impairment of the cognitive function among the elderly.
